Sam Hines may only be nine years old, but he shows an understanding beyond his years.
Two years ago, the Roydon Primary School pupil composed the words which were added to a wreath taken by Diss and District Royal British Legion to the Great Pilgrimage 90 tour and 100 days Ceremony. GP 90 was a recreation of the 1928 pilgrimage organised by the British Legion (as it was then known), which saw 11,000 First World War veterans and war widows visit the battlefields of the Somme and Ypres before marching to the Menin Gate in Ypres.
The town’s RBL branch made a presentation to Sam to show its appreciation, recently. He was also on hand to help the branch launch its poppy appeal in the Market Place.
