Kenninghall hub, The Pantry, given recognition for work by King Charles III and Queen Camilla
A Kenninghall service providing people with free food and affordable household items has been selected as a Community Champion of Their Majesties The King and Queen.
The Pantry started in September 2002 following pandemic food parcels being delivered from the home of Heidi Glendenning who runs it and has been given the award for its community support.
The Pantry works closely with other food hubs supported by the Norfolk community Foundation and Breckland Council, as part of the Nourishing Norfolk Network – which brings together groups of all sizes who work at grassroots level to ensure communities have access to affordable, healthy food.
On the good news, Heidi said: “We were contacted by the Royal Norfolk Show and invited to attend a tribute at the show recognising the work local groups and organisations do to support their community.
“We are extremely proud of The Pantry and what it does to support households through what can be a very difficult time.
“As volunteers, to be officially recognised for the support and practical help The Pantry offers the local community is a huge honour.”
The Pantry buys supermarket stock, but also has food donation boxes at Kenninghall doctors, St. Mary’s Church in the village, the primary school and East Harling Doctors Surgery.
Heidi said: “We are extremely grateful to Breckland Council, The Norfolk Community Foundation and the wider community that supports us – collectively we are changing lives for the better.”
