Scole housing development plans could see ‘excessive’ expansion, says some residents

Plans have been lodged for more than 100 homes to be built in a Norfolk village, which could increase its size by almost 20 per cent.

Hopkins Homes is hoping to build 112 properties in Scole to meet, what it calls, ‘high demand’ for housing in the area.

The development, to the east of Norwich Road, would include 37 affordable homes, a play area and an extension to the existing sports field near the village hall.

It would see a mix of one, two, three and four-bedroom houses built on the site, as well as bungalows and apartments.

Currently, the village already has about 640 homes there, so the proposed plans would significantly increase its size.

Some residents have called the development ‘excessive’ and raised concerns about the strain the increased population would put on schools and nearby GP surgeries.

However, others have welcomed the possible new housing and the significant extension to the playing field, which is said to be an ‘urgent’ need for local sports teams.
