VIDEO: Local hero rescues eight ducklings after they fell down a drain in Diss
Local hero Darren Edwards didn't hestitate when he saw a mother duck in distress outside a travel agents this week.
Darren, 49, was walking along Mere Street on Monday evening when he heard the duck panicking outside Thomas Cook.
The quick-thinking fibreglass laminator soon realised what had happened and went into action.
"I noticed the female duck outside Thomas Cook making a lot of noise, obviously distressed," said Darren, who lives in the town.
"It wasn't until I got a bit closer that I realised that some of her little ones had fallen through two separate drain covers.
"I couldn't leave them so I lifted the covers and there were eight in total so I fished them out one by one and watched them all waddle off to their mum."
"They then all headed into the Kings Head car park and I watched them as they went towards the Mere."
Darren's video of the rescue of two of the ducklings has since seen hundreds of likes on social media and he has become something of a local hero.
"I'd pressed record on my phone but my only concern was getting them out," he added.
His friend, Amie West, later them spotted back together again, earlier in the week.
This time, avoiding the drains
Only seven, but we think one had popped in Thomas Cook to book a holiday, to recover from the trauma.
