Work continues to restore Eye gas supply to 1,100 properties
Hundreds of properties in the town lost their supply on Monday after a third party damaged a high pressure gas pipe at an industrial estate at Eye Airfield.
Engineers from the gas supplier Cadent repaired the broken pipe today after a major operation involving more than 40 engineers and support staff from across East Anglia and the Midlands.
The latest reports state that engineers are currently performing final checks before starting the operation to switch supplies back on.
It’s anticipated that the first properties will have their gas supplies turned back on later this afternoon and residents are encouraged to stay in or arrange for someone to provide access to enable this to be done.
With over 800 properties to visit across the town it will take the remainder of the day and until late in the evening to visit them all.
A spokesman from Cadent said: " People are asked to remain patient. We are doing all we can to get supplies restored to all properties as soon as possible. All our engineers carry ID badges and people should inspect these before allowing anyone into their property."
Work continues to repair a gas main supplying properties on the industrial estate and this work will need to be completed before properties there have their supply restored.
The spokesman added: "People are reminded that with the temporary loss of gas supply it’s important not to overload the electricity network and people are asked to use electricity wisely and to avoid using too many appliances at the same time."
A customer centre has been set up at Eye Community Centre, where people can get information and advice, alternatively they can call 0345 835 1111 from 8am to 8pm.
