Harleston housing plan to be discussed online at 7pm, with residents urged to register and attend

People are being urged to attend an online planning meeting tonight, in which a proposal to build up to 110 new homes in Harleston will be discussed.

The application – submitted by Ruby Homes (East Anglia) Ltd for land south of Redenhall Road – has sparked 29 letters of objection so far, with two in support.

Concerns centre on increased parking and traffic issues, flooding, additional strain on infrastructure, such as doctors and dentists, and the size and scale of the build.

Michael Kenny, of Church View, which is close to the proposed site, said: “Infrastructure is struggling at moment. I also assume that it would not be long before any new residents would be complaining about the smells from the sewage farm, which I believe is just about coping at the present time.”

Elaine Black, of Redenhall Road, added: “The proposed entrance to the site is situated on and/or adjacent to a hidden bend on a narrow road, which is an existing and dangerous blind spot when entering and exiting Harleston.

“The land and property on the opposite side of the proposed development is deemed a flood zone and homes in the area would all be negatively impacted by the proximity of dense building development.”

Harleston is in the process of drawing up a neighbourhood plan to help shape where development should be allowed, with Trevor Graham, chairman of Harleston Town Council, adding: “We encourage people to attend tonight’s meeting to make sure that their voices are heard.”

The meeting of the town council takes place at 7pm. To register, go to www.harleston-tc.gov.uk and follow the links.
