South Norfolk’s Garboldisham, Old Buckenham, Banham, and East Harling artists put their work on display

An open studios art trail showcasing the work of local artists and makers is in its final week, having shone a light on some of Norfolk’s creative talents.

The South Breckland Trail, which is part of Norfolk Open Studios, has been running since September 23 and will end on October 8, with several artists from south Norfolk taking part.

South Lopham ceramist Keeley Chapman, Garboldisham painter and printmaker Deborah Key and East Harling acrylic and mixed media painter Debbie Plaskett are all part of the trail, which has been held in September and October since 2021.

Dan Randall, Norfolk Open Studios producer, said: “This year, we are once again offering people a behind-the-scenes look at some of the incredible and diverse creativity behind Norfolk’s artists and makers.

“Each of the six open studios districts offers a range of styles and techniques, which means there’s something for everyone.”

The trail gives artists the chance to welcome visitors into their working space – this might be in their own home, studio, garage, shed or garden – to share their work and skills as well as sell their art.

Speaking about her participation in the trail, Keeley Chapman said: “In previous years, I’d visited artists taking part but never imagined I would be in the position to be a contributor.

“So, of course, I said yes and shortly afterwards the South Breckland Art Trail was formed and registered with Norfolk Open Studios. Taking part was an easy decision to make.”

“As an artist, you spend large amounts of time alone creating, which is lovely, but putting your head above the parapet and saying hello to fellow artists, sharing ideas, bouncing off one another and working collaboratively is exciting.”

Studios are free to visit and visitors do not need to book in advance, unless they are a large group.
