Great Moulton's Fox & Hounds pub is recognised as best pub in South Norfolk
A pub has outshone dozens of rivals to be named the best pub in south Norfolk.
The Fox & Hounds in Great Moulton won over judges thanks to its warm fire, attractive décor and family-friendly ethos to claim the award earlier this month.
Landlady Alison Holman was on hand to take the acclaim at a glittering event at Norwich City football ground – the culmination of this year’s Business Awards, organised by South Norfolk Council.
“We thought we were in with a good chance, but it was still a nice surprise,” she told the Diss Express.
“We’re very much a community-centred pub and we look to include everyone where we can.
“Our customers always feel safe and happy here and we have an excellent team as well, who are a great part of what makes us successful.”
Miss Holman initially ran the pub with her nephew up until the pandemic, before assuming sole control last February.
“It was a challenging time for all pubs, and it takes time to bounce back, so it’s great to have that recognition,” she said.
“We are quite unique in that, when you walk in, we have different areas of the pub with their own character, including our marquee outside.
“Our target now is to maintain standards and see if we can compete again next year. We will keep moving forward.”
The pub is planning a ‘Tour de Pub’ cycle ride for the summer, where regulars will cycle between four local pubs, finishing at the Fox & Hounds for a barbecue, and a beer festival on August 26 and 27.
“We will keep providing a great service to everyone, whether they are existing customers or new ones, and I certainly think winning the award has helped bring some new faces in,” she added.
“We have it displayed on the bar now and, hopefully, word will spread that we are a great pub to visit.
“We couldn’t have got to where we are without the support of all our customers, along with our family and friends, and we look forward to building on this success.”
