Eye Primary School teacher set to embark on Norfolk Coastal Walk fundraising challenge
A primary school teacher is set to about to embark on her biggest challenge yet – equipped only with a tiny tent, a hot water bottle and some light baggage.
Rachel Norton, 53, a supply teacher at Eye Primary School, will be walking the 84-mile Norfolk Coastal Path to raise money for the Turkish and Syrian Earthquake Fund, which has been set up by the British Red Cross Society.
She will be joined on her marathon walk by her 51-year-old sister, Ruth, a special needs teacher, and her partner, teaching assistant Paul Sayer, 46, who live in Yelverton, near Norwich.
“A couple of years ago, we completed a virtual marathon together in aid of cancer and meningitis research, and raised £1,000,” said Rachel, who lives in Eye.
“We decided to try another challenge, and Paul suggested the earthquake fund, as a lot of help is still needed there. It’s heartbreaking to see the devastation.
“It’s my biggest challenge yet and I am looking forward to the walk and views, but not to the cold nights in a tiny tent. A hot water bottle will be an essential.”
The trio are beginning their walk in Hunstanton today and will be walking along the whole of the Norfolk coast, including Stiffkey, Sheringham, Cromer and Sea Palling.
They are hoping to finish in Hopton on Easter Monday.
They have already raised £500, with Eye Primary School parents chipping in, as well as some of the pupils.
