Sunshine brings out children to Easter Egg hunt at St Mary's Church in Mellis
The Easter spirit was alive and well in Mellis at the weekend, as dozens of youngsters turned out for the village’s annual Easter egg hunt.
St Mary’s Church played host to the event for the third year running on Saturday afternoon.
As many as 40 children went on the prowl for the elusive eggs over the course of the two-hour hunt, while face painting, a raffle, a tombola and various sales took place in the church.
As in previous years, the event was to raise funds towards the church’s maintenance and upkeep, and organisers have confirmed that a total of £244.50 was collected on the day.
The hunt was boosted by the brilliant sunny weather that fell across the region over the Bank Holiday weekend, in sharp contrast to the rain showers that dampened last year’s event.
Christine Lanchester, who organised the event with her daughter Melissa Gooderham, told the Diss Express: “Come rain or shine, we will always run it, but we were very lucky with the weather this year.
“The event went very well. It was a busy afternoon and the children loved it.
“It’s the biggest one we have had so far.
“We started this just as a little community thing, to try to get people to the church.
“It has grown every year.”
