Second consultation on different site for Diss Post Office move

A second consultation for the proposed relocation of Diss Post Office is under way – with a new site identified.

Feedback is being sought after the proposed location was changed from 5 Mere Street to 35e Mere Street, which was formerly Octagon Craft Gallery and Coffee Lounge.

The new premises, which is currently empty, would undergo a full refurbishment to include Diss Post Office and a card and stationery store.

The branch at 7 Market Place, which has been home to the town’s post office since 1953, survived a closure attempt in 2017 thanks to a swathe of objections.

The current business is operated under a short-term contract and the proposed move includes the appointment of a permanent new postmaster.

The same range of Post Office services would be available, with the site open from Monday to Friday, between 9am and 5.30pm, and on Saturdays, from 9am to 12.30pm. Time-restricted roadside parking, including dedicated disabled parking bays, is available nearby.

Feedback regarding the original proposal raised concerns about a lack of parking and internal space.

The new consultation runs until March 20.
