Thousands of pupils in Suffolk and Norfolk have the day off from school after some full and many partial school closures as a result of industrial action.

The National Union of Teachers (NUT) say the strike demands are to increase funding to schools and education, guarantee terms and conditions in all types of schools, and to resume negotiations on teacher contracts to allow workload to be addressed.

In the NUT ballot last month, 91.7 per cent of members voted to strike.

A number of schools in the Diss Express area in Norfolk have been affected. The Diss Express has been supplied a list of schools in Suffolk by the County Council which are subject to industrial action, none of which are in north Suffolk, although a spokesperson explained many schools were yet to inform the authority.
