Breckland planners meet to discuss proposal of 4,000 new homes on outskirts of Attleborough

Breckland Council’s planning committee are to hold a special meeting in Attleborough to discuss the growth of the town.

The committee will meet at the Connaught Rooms on March 15 from 9.30am to discuss an application for outline planning permission for up to 4,000 new homes to be built on the outskirts of Attleborough.

The major development, known as a strategic urban extension (SUE) has been widely discussed and consulted upon in the past by the applicant, Ptarmigan.

It is now being presented to the planning committee for consideration and approval of planning permission.

In light of the scale of the application, the meeting will be dedicated to this single application and, like all planning committee meetings, will be open to public attendance.

In addition to the proposed housing, the application also includes proposals to introduce key infrastructure, including the provision of a new local centre and two neighbourhood centres, two new primary schools, a footbridge over the Leys Lane level crossing, a new Linear Park running through the development and a link road from London Road to Old Buckenham Road.

A Breckland spokesperson said: “Attleborough has been earmarked for significant growth for some time and this plan will play its part in the overall local plan delivery.
