Thousands of people turned out for the Mendlesham Community Council’s street fayre on Monday.
The Mad Hare Marching Band, East Suffolk Morris Men and Urban Allstars Majorettes all featured as part of the day’s packed music and entertainment programme.
Carolyn Triscott, chairman of both the Mendlesham Community Council and the street fayre committee, said the Tricky Twister magician proved especially popular with youngsters, while the craft fair in the community hall was a big hit with shoppers.
The annual event, which has been running since around 1980, helps raise funds for much-needed projects in Mendlesham, with last year’s fayre having paid for new play equipment.
Ms Triscott said: “It’s a great way of making money for the village and is about everybody coming together – there’s such a great atmosphere, everybody waving to everybody else because we all know each other.”
“We also have people come from around the whole of East Anglia – they absolutely love it and come every year,” she added.
Organisers are hopeful Monday’s events will have raised around £10,000 and expect the village community centre, which is in need of refurbishment, to receive at least some of the funds.
