Gislingham Summer Fair returns after five-year absence

After a five-year hiatus, Gislingham Summer Fair made a triumphant return despite the early bad weather on the day.

Hundreds of people flocked to Gislingham Primary School playing fields to enjoy games, a fancy dress parade, a choir and a dog show.

Jeff Norman, secretary of the organising committee, said that, despite a spell of wet weather in the morning, the day went extremely well.

He said: “There is something quintessentially British about a summer fair in the rain, and around 200 people turning up in rain macs and with umbrellas.

“But fun was still had by all and the day got brighter in the afternoon. Thank you to everyone who came and those that helped us run the fair.”

The day raised £2,489, which will be split between Gislingham Village Hall, the Friends of St Mary’s Church, Gislingham WI, Gislingham Playgroup, Friends of Gislingham Primary School and the 1st Mendlesham Scouts.
