Two men arrested after protests outside The Park Hotel in Diss and The Brook Hotel in Bowthorpe
Two men have been arrested after protests outside hotels that are housing asylum seekers.
Protests happened outside The Park Hotel in Diss and The Brook Hotel in Bowthorpe, near Norwich, last week.
Two men in their 20s were arrested this morning on suspicion of affray and were taken into custody at Wymondham Police Investigation Centre where they remain.
A Norfolk Police spokesperson said: "It comes following a review of available footage from both sides of the protest and consultation with the Crown Prosecution Service (CPS).”
The Home Office is currently at a stalemate with the owners of The Park Hotel amid a backlash over its plans to house single male asylum seekers there.
The hotel, in Denmarket Street, issued a statement in which it said it would close rather than allow the government to place the men there.
The hotel has been used for asylum seeker families, including women and children, for two years.
But under the plans these were to be moved out and replaced with the men.
