Band gets back together - all for a good cause
You’d never mistake them for a boy band.
For a start, Bryan Steward, the drummer, is 70 and Len Hobson, the bass player, a couple of years older.
Lead guitarist Chris Bullen and Pete West, rhythm guitarist and lead vocalist, are a bit younger “but not much,” according to Bryan.
Together they make up Strike School - a name inspired by the Strike School at Burston where one of the band members lives. They are occasionally joined by Len’s daughter Sarah on keyboards and she will be flying from Devon this weekend to join the band at the first anniversary celebrations at Diss Corn Hall tomorrow.
The four regulars had been semi-professional musicians for years until they gradually gave up gigging. “Then Chris emailed us to say he had been asked to put together a band for a charity event and asked if we were interested. We all thought, ‘’Why not?’,” said Bryan.
Rehearsals started and now the band is back playing rock and pop - but strictly for charity. If it is a cause they can support - especially if it involves young musicians - the band makes no charge.
