Representatives of many organisations as well as relatives and close friends attended the funeral at the Seven Hills Crematorium, Nacton, of Eileen May Pretoria Brett of Pippin Cottage, Castleton Way, Eye, who died on January 8, aged 87.
The service was conducted by the Rev Barry Middleton who read a moving tribute on behalf of the family describing Eileen as an adored mother and cherished grandmother, a loyal friend and trusted confidant.
In her working life Mrs Brett had been a switchboard operator for the Post Office, later being employed by a stockbroker firm until she retired at the age of 64.
She married Les, “the boy next door”, with whom she enjoyed 23 years before he sadly died at an early age. They had one daughter, Sharon, and one son, Keith. After moving to Eye, Eileen took an active part in the community joining the Women’s Institute, the Royal British Legion Women’s Section, the Elderflower Club and the EXTEND exercise class. She also took an active part in the WI Knitting Group in which she completed teddy bears for East Anglia’s Children’s Hospices and items for special care baby units. She enjoyed local luncheon clubs, bingo nights at Eye Bowls Club and also travelling to the USA, Canada and other countries to visit family and friends.
Donations in Eileen’s memory are being given to the British Heart Foundation.
