Norfolk scores highly in report on UK shotgun ownership




A new study has revealed Norfolk comes second in having the most certificated shotguns in the UK as well as the second most per 100,000 people.

The figures from a report by security experts, Get Licensed, looked into firearm offence rates, firearm certificate holders, certificate revocations and rejections.

The county had 59,168 shotguns covered by certificates issued as of March 31 this year, coming second to West Mercia, which had 68,825.

There are also 6,459 shotguns per 100,000 people in the county, this figure was only beaten by Dyfed-Powys, with 6,557.

Other statistics per 100,000 people included that there have been 40.3 offences involving firearms recorded over the past decade and there are 7.02 firearms dealers in the police force area.

Around 2.38 per cent of firearm applications were rejected in Norfolk in 2022/23, 38 firearm certificates were revoked in the police area between April 2022 and March 2023 and Norfolk’s population spends around ££284,632 on renewing and applying for shotgun and firearm certificates.
