Work has now started at the school which will boost its capacity from 250 to 420 pupils
Construction company, Morgan Sindall, has started work on behalf of Norfolk County Council on a £5.75m scheme to double the capacity of a Norfolk primary school, which will include a new main hall, a food tech room, reception area, offices, staff room, toilets and storage space.
Sections of the school’s main building, which dates back to 1886, will also be refurbished, including the library.
The project will also involve the removal of four old mobile classrooms from the school site at the end of the works, which are expected to be completed in 2019.
Saul Humphrey, managing director of Morgan Sindall’s East region, said: “We’re pleased and proud to be working with Norfolk County Council to deliver this major expansion, future-proofing this fantastic school’s offering for generations to come.
“We’re looking forward to providing and outstanding learning environment.”
Head teacher, Sarah Bradford, said: “The staff and children are delighted that work has started to create a fabulous, modern and versatile building that will help us provide the very best education we can for our local children.
“Having used every available space for many years, it will be wonderful for children to be learning in purpose-built areas designed to support the curriculum.”
