Amanda Moss is currently training four times a week ahead of the world famous road race, for which she is raising money for the charity Action on Hearing Loss.

Having two profoundly deaf children, the matter is close to her heart.

The 44-year-old from Banham said: “Deafness has been a huge part of our lives for the past 19 years.

“My children Megan and Archie were both born deaf and I’ve decided to raise money for Action on Hearing Loss because they offer great support to families.

“Being able to access as many opportunities for our children is so important.”

The charity provides vital information, care and support for people with hearing loss and their families.

When her children were diagnosed as profoundly death after they were born, Amanda was unable to continue working full-time as a bookkeeper.

“You need to spend extra time with them,” said Amanda, who initially started running because of her asthma.

“There are extra hospital and therapy appointments. It’s just a lot more input with them, such as their school work.

“When you’re deaf, it takes you quite a long time to take some things in. Their memories work differently.”

Although considered a challenging environment, Amanda says her children cope well, as they have never known any different.

Megan, now 20, goes to university in Essex, while Archie, 16, attends Wymondham College.

For the marathon on April 28, Amanda has raised more than £1,100 and hopes to raise an additional £900 to reach her target.
