A north Suffolk commercial coach company celebrating its 50th year in business has leapt to the forefront of the tourism industry after being recognised with a prestigious national award.

The Galloway Travel Group, based in Mendlesham, overcame competition from firms throughout the UK to claim the Coach Monthly ‘Special Award’, given in recognition of outstanding contributions to coach tourism, during the recent National Coach Tourism Awards at West Midland Safari Park in Worcestershire.

Bernie Miles, commercial director at Galloway, said: “I was taken aback. I had no idea this was coming, it was a complete surprise. To be recognised in this way is truly humbling.

“I accepted the award on behalf of the great team we have here at Galloway and in recognition of all the support I have received from my family and from colleagues within the industry.

“This is a career I have made from my passion and it was wonderful to be presented with such an accolade from my peers.”

Founded back in 1965, Galloway currently offers coach touring holidays, day excursions, coach hire, local bus route and school provision, as well as travel options to live events across the country.

Stuart Render, awards host and editor of Coach Monthly magazine, added: “Bernie was up against the best of the best coach tour operators in the country so this is therefore a well-deserved and a significant achievement.

“Our winners are at the forefront in delivering excellence across all sectors of the industry, helping to raise the quality of customer service and quality across coach operators and tourism industry suppliers.”
