M&Co closes down 170 stores to put jobs at risk across the country

Jobs are at risk as a major clothing retailer has announced shop closures across the county.

It is understood that M&Co, which has 170 branches, with shops in Diss, Sudbury, Haverhill, Beccles, Stowmarket and Woodbridge, will close all its outlets in the UK.

This comes nearly two months after the Scottish firm entered administration, with the brand name having been purchased, but not the stores.

The BBC has reported the chain had been bought by AK Retail Holdings, but this purchase did not include physical outlets.

M&Co outlets across the county have urged customers to use their gift cards before they become void on February 12.

The Woodbridge chain expressed hope the store could remain open for a few months, with a spokesperson for the branch commenting: “Until we close the doors for the final time there is much stock all being sold at a reduced price.”

Diss M&Co was approached for comment.
