Trio from Harleston and District Round Table answer SOS to take on 136-mile charity trip

A trio of moped riders joined forces make the trip from London to Norfolk to raise tens of thousands of pounds for charity.

Harleston and District Round Tablers Rob Vincent, Tom Banks and Jim Collins donned their helmets after a call from national president Steve Eccles, who was attempting to drum up support for the charity ride.

“Steve said he knew we were mad and did we want to join,” explained Mr Vincent, who runs Vincent’s Garage in Rushall.

The fundraiser saw the trio set off from the capital on a 136-mile journey to the Louis Marchesi pub in Norwich – close to where it is said the Round Table was founded in 1927.

“Before the ride, we decided to have a late breakfast, so we got a camping stove out, balanced it on one of the bikes and cooked off some bacon next to Tower Bridge,” said Mr Vincent. “That was a great way to start the day.”

The event raised £40,000 for the Anthony Nolan blood cancer charity, with the Harleston group donating £700 towards the cause.

In September, the three men, along with friend Scott Stewart, took on an even longer ride, journeying from Norwich to Maastricht in Holland for a world meeting of the Round Table.
