LETTER - ‘Thanks for support of Rickinghall exhibition’
Thank you to all the people who attended the Keeping History Alive exhibition to promote the launch of Quatrefoil’s new book – A Rural Education, by Sarah Doig, the 11th book in the local history series. Sarah also gave two talks on schools during the day.
Displays on the village schools of Rickinghall, Botesdale and Redgrave included a photograph of the infants’ class at Redgrave School in the mid 1950s. This was sent to us by past pupil Colin Ray, who now lives in Northampton. When a local lady, Jackie (nee Erith) recognised herself in the photo she was able to meet Colin and his brother, who attended the exhibition. Several people brought in artefacts for identification by the professional archaeologist from the Portable Antiquities Scheme.
Donations of £105 were made towards the repairs needed for the chancel roof of Rickinghall Inferior Church.
A photograph on canvas of this church and the wild flowers, which recently won the diocesan photography competition at the Suffolk Show, was kindly given by the photographer Charles Greenhough and raised another £40.
