For the past five years, we have been lobbying the local council to do something about the speeding traffic along Stanley Road in Diss.

We thought that vehicle-activated signs, flashing signs, in both directions would be the solution but were told repeatedly by our local councillor that financing them was a problem.

However, one of these signs did appear a month ago at the entrance to Diss, and there was noise reduction much to our delight, although traffic speeding out of Diss had been ignored.

We were very pleased to see that the sign was doing its work and that the speed of incoming traffic had greatly reduced.

However, much to our horror, we see the sign has now been removed. We phoned the town council and were told that the sign is being put elsewhere for a month and will then be returned to Stanley Road for a month.

When, oh when are we going to be given permanent vehicle-activated signs on Stanley Road in both directions to stop the nightmare that is this major road?
