Finally, a politician talks sense, Dan Poulter’s appraisal of both the unsuitability of Eye farmland for a second power station and public objections to the proposal, echo the sentiments of many local people (MP’s power station fears, January 16).

Shame that Mid Suffolk District Council and Suffolk County Council are not similarly engaged with, and sympathetic to the feelings, of their electorate. Throughout the whole planning application process, we’ve simply been told that the power station is happening, end of.

In fact, one Suffolk county councillor suggested to me that because his constituents in another part of Suffolk have had to endure a nuclear power station, he doesn’t find it acceptable that anyone around here should get emotional about a gas-fired power station.

The Diss Express should also stop perpetuating the myth that Progress Power will create 250 jobs during the power station’s construction, specialist contractors with their own workforce will doubtless do the work, creating few, if any, local jobs.

As for the 15 jobs to be created if the power station were to come online, a Progress Power representative explained to a neighbour that it’s likely that there will be only four or five oily rag jobs for locals.
