Great-grandmother turns author- at grand old age of 96

A great grandmother has had a book of poetry published at the grand old age of 96.

Pauline Trippett was thrilled to see 63 poems she has written over the past 50 years compiled into a book called Pauline’s Poetry.

After a career working in finance, Mrs Trippett would often jot down poems when she felt inspired.

Mrs Trippett came up with the idea after deciding she wanted to leave a legacy for her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

The book, published by Diss-based Francis Cupiss, is already proving popular.

Covering topics such as religion, peace and her time as an air raid warden during the Second World War, Pauline’s Poetry – all 72 pages of it – could go on general release any time soon.

“Friends have bought copies already, and we are looking into distribution options,” said daughter Jane Trippett-Jones.

“The poems are really moving and capture moments and thoughts from mum’s life. We have already had people asking for copies.”

Mrs Trippett said: “I never thought the poems would mean anything to other people.

“I just enjoyed writing them.”

Below is one of Pauline's Poems:

Almost a Sonnet (1985)

Yesterday is past and gone,

And yet tomorrow may not come.

Today is here and will not stay

But make way for another day.

Nought can be done for what is past,

Tomorrow will come ever fast.

So make the most of what is here,

Enjoy it all without a tear.

Accept all that is good or not,

Experiencing all your lot,

Maturing, growing, every day,

So in the future you may say

My life was good in many a way,

And worth the living every day.
