A sportsman’s dinner featuring former Ipswich Town and Norwich City stars will be held in Diss later this year in a bid to raise cash for former resident David Bloomfield, who is fighting back from a brain tumour.

Taking place at the Park Hotel, Denmark Street, on September 11, it is being organised by Patrick Haydon, of Diss, a former teammate of Mr Bloomfield’s at Scole United more than a decade ago.

Names set to appear include former Tractor Boys John Wark and Simon Milton, former Canary Paul McVeigh, and Rob Butler, host of Canary Call on BBC Radio Norfolk.

“You can see by the amount of backup that David has had that he really is a fantastic fella, and everybody is banding together to raise this money for him and hopefully that can be ongoing,” Mr Haydon said.

“We are all in it to help David.

“The Park Hotel have been helpful in organising it and I am just hoping now we can generate interest.”

Visitors will be treated to a three-course meal and entertainment, while an auction will be held with various sporting memorabilia, including a signed Frank Lampard Chelsea shirt.

Doors open at 7pm for a 7.30pm start, with tickets at £50.
