Waveney Foodbank calls for help to restock shelves after successful festive appeal

A foodbank is appealing for help in restocking its core items after a successful festive campaign.

Waveney Foodbank, which is part of The Trussell Trust, having opened in 2012, now hopes people will help again, not just with tinned and dried food, but with hygiene products, like shampoo and deodorant.

This follows its successful Christmas appeal, which saw people donating items including stuffing, jars of pickles, mince pies and crackers, which they left at collection points at various supermarkets.

Volunteers have been out in force to collect the donations, even being joined by Adrian Ramsay, MP for Waveney Valley, who helped them to pack bags at Tesco before Christmas.

The charity says around 10,000 people – a 50 per cent increase over the past five years – now use its services.

While people of all ages rely on the foodbank, there has been a recent rise in the number of elderly people seeking help.

Foodbank manager Matthew Scade said it was this age group that seemed to be struggling the most to put food on the table, while also keeping their homes warm as winter hits.
