A140 closed as abnormal load travels from Ipswich to Yaxley with four more operations planned
A total of five abnormal loads are set to travel through the county this week which may cause disruption on Suffolk roads.
The first load, weighing 370,600kg, is currently on the move after it left Ipswich Docks this morning at 6am while being escorted by Suffolk Police.
It is headed to the Eye Synchronous Condenser Plant in Yaxley, with its route passing through:
Cliff Quay, Cliff Road, B1548, A1156, B1075 Derby Road, Tomline Road, Foxhall Road, St Helens Street, A1156, Norwich Road, A14 Contraflow, A140, Mendlesham Industrial Estate (this will be used as a rest stop if necessary), A140 temporary overbridge, Brockford Street, A140 and then Yaxley private road to the site.
The A140 through will be temporarily closed while it makes the journey, as well as Derby Road, Tomline Road and the St Matthew's Street subway in Ipswich.
On the A14, police will implement a rolling roadblock to manage traffic to facilitate a wrongside maneuver between junctions 53 and 51.
The second load, weighing 50,000kg, will depart from Sizewell C at 9am tomorrow, heading to Burton upon Trent via local roads, Lover’s Lane, the B1122, A12 and A14 to the Cambridge border.
On Tuesday, an abnormal load will take the same route in reverse leaving Burton upon Trent at 11am and traveling to Sizewell C.
Later that day, another 50,000kg load will leave Sizewell C at 1pm for Burton upon Trent, following the same route.
Finally, on Thursday, a 54,000kg load will travel from Redditch to Sizewell C.
After reaching the A14 Cambridge border, it will continue on the A11, A47, A146, A143, A1145, A12, B1122, Lover's Lane and local roads to its destination.
