Diss business Victoria Fish Bar supported by town in fund-raising and collection effort

A Diss business has been gathering items as part of a relief effort to help victims of the Turkey and Syria earthquake.

Eyyup Dincer, who runs Victoria Fish Bar in Victoria Road, has been collecting the donated items before sending them on to London, where they will be taken to Turkey.

“No more clothes are being accepted currently, but we want to thank everyone who has been donating so far,” he said.

"My town where I was born and grew up has disappeared. I have many friends and family there.

“Thank you very much to those people who have brought in items or made cash donations. I have great respect for everyone who has helped.

"My customers have been amazing with clothing nappies sleeping bags and quilts. They have been very supportive and all have shown great sadness at the tragedy.

"I have been deeply touched by this the generosity and sympathy I have received from them all . I thank them all from the bottom of my heart . I have attached collections if people would rather donate to them or if that can’t get in the shop.

"We are still collecting nappies baby milk medicine but no longer need blankets or clothing."

Mr Dincer, who has friends and family in Turkey, said he will continue to collect items to help those displaced by the disaster, which killed 35,000 people.

“It’s expensive to have the lorries transport everything so we are looking for items more focused on things like baby clothes, nappies, medical and sanitary items, quilts and pillows,” he added.
