Hoxne man cycles from Diss to Newgale in memory of SNQ Clinical owner Tony Rees

A trainee builder is taking on a mammoth cycling trip in memory of a family friend who died from cancer.

On Thursday, September 1, Daniel Baxter, 23, began the first leg of a 400-mile trip to Wales to honour Diss businessman Tony Rees, who died in 2019.

Mr Baxter set off from the premises of SNQ Clinical in Diss – the business Mr Rees set up in 1996 – arriving on Sunday in Newgale – the 61-year-old’s favourite holiday destination.

“It’s something I had been meaning to do and, because of Covid, I haven’t been able to,” said Mr Baxter, who works as a house builder.

“I enjoy cycling as a hobby but I haven’t done anything like this.

“Tony was a great character so I wanted to do something in his memory.”

Mr Baxter, who lives in Cross Street, Hoxne, is raising money for Priscilla Bacon Hospice, which cared for Mr Rees in the latter stage of his life.

So far, his fundraiser has raised more than £2,500 – exceeding his original target of £2,000.
