Hoxne church rededicated as the Church of St Peter and St Paul with St Edmund

A church has been renamed to commemorate the patron saint of Suffolk on the 1,150th anniversary of his death.

The church in Hoxne was rededicated as the Church of St Peter and St Paul with St Edmund.

Edmund the Martyr was the King of East Anglia and it is believed he was killed and once buried in the village.

A chapel dedicated to the saint was blessed by the Bishop of Dunwich, the Rt Rev Mike Harrison, on November 20 and a newly-restored wooden screen, which includes carvings by famous Victorian woodcarver Harry Hems, was unveiled.

The screen forms the entrance to the chapel, which is available for small services and private prayer.
