Fair Green Fish Bar pledges to give away 200 portions to schoolchildren over summer holiday

A Diss takeaway will be offering free meals to schoolchildren in the town over the summer holidays.

After collecting donations earlier in the year, Fair Green Fish Bar has set aside hundreds of portions of sausage and chips to keep children fed until school starts again in September.

Owner Cemal Adiguzel began taking donations from residents in the run-up to the Easter holidays, where he gave away 160 portions, and is aiming for even more this summer.

“We wanted to do this because we didn’t want anybody to go hungry,” said the 39-year-old. “We started taking donations from people, so it is all thanks to the community, who have been so generous and wanted to help their neighbours.

“We’ve been overwhelmed with the donations and kindness we have received.”

Children must be accompanied by an adult to collect their meal.
