Care home firm’s fresh application to build 77 flats in Diss
A planning application for a number of care home flats in Diss has been submitted to South Norfolk Council.
East Anglia Care Homes, which formally lodged the application last month, wants to build 77 care home flats in Nelson Road, next to the railway station.
The planning application details how the development will include communal facilities, such as a dining area, lounge, a shop and bar.
The company has already purchased a residential bungalow that is on the site, and has proposed that the property would be demolished as part of the development.
Addressing concerns about transport links to the care home, a statement submitted with the planning application read: “Not only is the site located within an existing residential and employment area with a selection of services easily accessible via existing pedestrian and cycle facilities, but bus stops and Diss Railway Station are both located within walking distance from the site.
“This, therefore, will help reduce the impact of the proposed care home on climate change, and will improve the public health of those working and visiting there.”
Martin Thirkettle, from the economic growth team at the district council, said that he would support it, adding that it “gives the opportunity for additional local employment”.
Planning permission was previously granted for the development back in December 2013.
However no action was taken at that point and the care home company has been forced to submit a fresh application.
