Bid to demolish Mill Green Farm barn, in Stonham Aspal, near Stowmarket, and build three homes green lit by Mid Suffolk District Council

A bid to demolish a farm barn and replace it with three homes has been green lit despite objections from a council.

Mid Suffolk District Council approved the plans from Stacey Marie Homes Ltd for the site at Mill Green Farm, in Stonham Aspal, near Stowmarket, on Tuesday.

The proposals will see the detatched barn, which is built of a mixture of bricks, asbestos cement walls and asbestos cement roof sheets, demolished and replaced with a similar building, albeit the homes will be detatched and not linked by the roof.

Stonham Aspal Parish Council objected to the plans on trhe basis it believed the development was not a repurposing of the existing barn in keeping with its setting but three new inappropriate properties.

One of the homes will be two storeys while the others will be single storey.

All will have three bedrooms and have solar panels on the roofs facing east.

Planners said the design of the properties was acceptable in terms of its design and layout and would not harm the character of the area.

They added the demolition and rebuilding of the barn would not impinge signficantly on residential amenity.
