Attleborough Bloomers open community shed

Gardening and litter picking just got a little bit easier in Attleborough – thanks to a new community shed, which was officially opened on Sunday.

The new facility, which cost a total of £1,500, will store 20 high-visibility vests, 48 pairs of gloves, a shovel, broom and weed scraper, as well as 20 litter pickers and a storage bag.

It has been particularly well-received by town gardening group Attleborough Bloomers, which was formed last summer and was instrumental in securing the new shed.

Since its inception, the group has organised a number of litter picks in the town – and hopes to use the equipment to assist in future projects.

Taila Taylor, a member of the gardening group and a district and town councillor, helped organise the shed after proposing the location to Breckland Council and securing the necessary funding.

Cllr Taylor said: “Because our community already has so many people who like getting involved in these things, it’s been really well received. As soon as I saw the scheme, it screamed Attleborough.

“Our group will act as key holders but it’s not just for us, it’s for the entire community. We get people of all ages turning up, with 35 people joining our last litter pick.”

Run by Breckland Council, the scheme has already led to community sheds springing up in Thetford, Dereham, Watton and Swaffham.

Anyone hoping to use the equipment in Attleborough can meet outside Connaught Hall on Sundays at 11am. Alternatively, contact Cllr Taylor to have the shed unlocked. It is free to use.
