Attleborough Academy’s dancing maths teacher honoured at ceremony
A new south Norfolk maths teacher who uses pop music to engage his students has been honoured after receiving his formal qualification last week.
Grant Martin, who teaches at Attleborough Academy, was among 23 graduates to successfully obtain Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) from the Norfolk Teacher Training Centre (NTTC), where he was awarded ‘Outstanding’ progress with a specialism in mathematics.
Mr Martin was recognised for his unusual style, having become known for incorporating music and even dance moves into his lessons.
He said: “Chris Moyles used to do musical maths sums where famous bands would sing out a maths problem and you had to follow it along and work out what the final answer was.
“Because it’s using popular bands with the students, they really sort of engage with it and they really enjoy it.
“From time to time I do get a bit carried away, and I can’t help but dancing along! It just happens!”
Paul McCann, Director of NTTC, praised this year’s graduates for their particular willingness to take risks.
