Gillings of Diss owners appeal to find owners of wedding photo album

An appeal has been made to track down the owners of a wedding photo album after it was found at a local scrap yard.

Toni and Simon Gillings, who run Gillings of Diss in Mission Road, found the album in a distinctive box when clearing out an office.

Having taken on the business after their father, Peter (pictured), died in 2018, the pair have hit something of a brick wall when it comes to the album’s origins.

Simon, 49, said: “We were looking through a filing cabinet and found this box with a photo album in – we have no idea where it came from.

“It’s so nice, and needs to be returned to the family. We think it may have been dropped off with some other items by mistake. Perhaps our father wasn’t able to find the owners at the time and it ended up being forgotten.”

He added: “If you had an album like that put together today with the box it came in, it would cost a fortune so, if nobody comes forward, we’ll keep it safe and keep reaching out to try to find the owners or their family.”

The photos, which appear to have been taken at St Mary’s Church in Diss in the 1970s, feature one image in which the groom has a football at his feet.

Little else is known about the photos, and it is hoped that someone may recognise the bride or groom and get in touch with Gillings of Diss or the Diss Express.

Toni Gillings, 52, said: “I did wonder if someone had dumped it here, but it looks expensive and well presented, so I can’t imagine that would be the case.

“We did put a post on the Diss community Facebook page, but we’ve had no luck so far.”
