Young dancers from Scole, Worlingworth and Tivetshall St Margaret win roles in English Youth Ballet production
A trio of young dancers have won coveted roles in a major ballet production and will leap on to stage in Norwich next week.
Esme Rose Jackson, Leolie Lessware and Amelie Putt have been cast in English Youth Ballet’s (EYB) production of Sleeping Beauty, after being put through their paces in hugely competitive auditions in March.
With just days until the production hits the stage at Norwich Theatre Royal, on Friday and Saturday, the trio are currently experiencing the life of a professional dancer in rehearsals, undertaking 60 hours of training across 10 rehearsal days, with sessions structured to mirror the professional dance environment.
Leolie, 17, of Scole, goes to Angela Rowe School of Dance said: “I started dancing at eight years old, originally because all my friends were doing it.
“While I’m with EYB, I’m hoping to learn more and improve on performance and getting more confident with my dancing.”
Esme Rose, 10, of Tivetshall St Margaret, goes to Anglia Region Theatre School and Amelie, 16, of Worlingworth, attends Saxtead School of Dance.
EYB principal Ann Wall, who is starring as Aurora, said: “Being part of EYB is an amazing experience for any young dancer.
“I enjoy teaching and coaching all the young dancers and I see some of the most talented young dancers in the country. Dancing with EYB is an experience that will stay with the young dancers forever.”
EYB productions are known for their grandeur and scale, combining world-class professional artists with ‘exceptional’ local youth talent.
Sleeping Beauty – A Spectacular Ballet is at Norwich Theatre Royal next Friday and Saturday, featuring a cast of 100 talented young dancers from across Norfolk and eight international principals.
The production promises tradition alongside innovation, bringing together classical dance with compelling storytelling, performed with grandeur.
