Andrew Lloyd Webber’s hit musical Sunset Boulevard is hitting the stage at Norwich Theatre Royal across several nights from the beginning of next week. The narrative of the show aims to expose the dark side of fame, telling the story of fame-hungry pairing Norma Desmond, a once-revered but now fading Hollywood starlet, and Joe Gillis, a young screenwriter desperate for money and success. Presented by the Norfolk and Norwich Operatic Society, Sunset Boulevard is the winner of seven Tony Awards, featuring such songs as With One Look, As If We Never Said Goodbye and The Perfect Year. Director Jeremy Tustin said: “This is something completely different for Andrew Lloyd Webber and it is not like his earlier work like Evita or Jesus Christ Superstar.”
The show runs every night from Monday until next Saturday, January 30, at 7.30pm, plus 2.30pm matinees on the Wednesday and Saturday. Tickets range between £7 and £21.50.
