The Dove Players broke away from traditional pantos to present a rollicking Western–Calamity Jane – which proved to be one of their best in the nine years of their existence.

A large cast revelled in the quick-fire action, colourful costumes and rousing songs.

One of the major assets of the Dove Players is the four-piece band and the backing group – the Warbling Squaws.

Add the Eye do Dance team, who never put a foot wrong on a crowded stage, and success was guranteed.

It would not be an Eye panto without Simon Hooton as the Dame, taking the role in his usual competent style, and Geir Madland excelled as the fearsome Geronomo.

A good performance came from David Willoughby as the cowboy Old Timer.

Others who impressed included Christian Smith as Chief Talking Bull with Pocahontas (Livi Madland Shorter) the only solo singer, and Nikolai Madland Shorter as the Milky Bar Kid.

But this was, above all, a team effort with everyone playing their part to brighten up a wet December day with an entertaining show.
