Music Review: Tell Her, Stradbroke
The Queen’s Head in Stradbroke is not unfamiliar for local acoustic folk duo Tell Her. However, the atmosphere of New Year’s Eve posed new challenges, which they overcame with usual confidence.
Alice Nichols adopted an edgy approach to her guitar playing, contrasting her foray into a ukulele-based number. Ruby Mason added fondant layers of violin, and their vocal interplay was like exchanging Christmas gifts.
They deliberately chose a set list to mirror the party mood, combining Tell Her classics with covers of such diverse acts as Ed Sheeran, Dolly Parton and The Smiths, all delivered with poise and feeling. They were once again supported by Stradbroke duo Florence & Emily.
Emily Self adopts a more considered approach to guitar, whilst Florence Vane comes alive with a microphone. They were joined by Issy Arnold, adding harmonies to songs by Adele, The Coral and Fleetwood Mac.
Tell Her’s set continued its march to New Year and as midnight struck, they performed ‘Auld Lang Syne’, finishing with a frenzied riff.
