Young Diss teams make it into top five seeds

Two Diss Under-13 sides impressed at the first Norfolk RFU and Eastern Counties RFU Festival on Sunday.

Diss II were in particularly good form, opening up with a 0-0 draw against Wymondham.

After that they beat Holt 3-0 and Norwich 2-0, before running out 4-1 victors over Crusaders in the final encounter of the day.

Meanwhile, Diss I started with defeats against North Walsham and Holt.

But they bounced back with a 6-0 win over Lowestoft & Yarmouth, followed by a 6-1 triumph in the clash with West Norfolk.

With all the results taking into consideration, the two Diss teams will join North Walsham, Holt and Wymondham in the top-five seeded teams for the next festival in January.

n Diss Rugby Club will be well represented when Eastern Counties Under-15 and Under-18 Girls take on Sussex in a London and South East festival at Uckfield on Sunday.

The club has six players in the Under-18 squad, with Jessica Wright-McLean vice-captain. The other Diss players are Georgina Seymour, Cecily White, Megan Williams, Aimee Gardiner and Kate Hotchkiss.

Meanwhile, there are five Diss players in the Under-15 squad: Ezme Bonner, Chloe Williams, Kirsty Welfare, Rose Wilcox and Emily Blackman.

Framlingham College’s Poppy Mayall is also in the squad.

n Despite missing the influence of captain Benny Goodman, Diss III hammered hosting UEA 41-3 on Saturday.

There was very little to split the teams at half-time, with Diss 5-3 in front thanks to Pete Bray’s try. However, in the second half John Alexander scored a hat-trick of tries, while Will Hudson, Ed Passmore and Henry Passmore all dotted down.
