Wright hoping to hit form for trip to Munich
Mendham’s Peter Wright is back in action on the European Tour this weekend when he travels to Munich today for the German Darts Masters.
The second event on the Professional Darts Corporation’s European Tour gets underway tomorrow, with 48 players set to do battle at the Ballhausforum over the next three days in a bid to win the £25,000 winner’s prize.
Snakebite reached the semi-finals in Munich last year, beating Keegan Brown (6-2), Jamie Bain (6-3) and Robert Thornton (6-5) before losing 6-1 to the eventual winner Michael van Gerwen.
Ahead of starting his latest bid for European Tour glory, Wright was set to take on Phil Taylor in the latest round of the Betway Premier League in Liverpool last night.
The 46-year-old was aiming to end a run of three consecutive defeats in the tournament, which had seen the Scot drop out of the play-offs and down into sixth place in the table.
The latest of those trio of defeats came in Glasgow last week, where Wright was narrowly beaten 7-5 by fellow countryman Gary Anderson.
Snakebite made a strong start to the all-Scottish clash at The SSE Hydro by hitting double 10 for an early break, but then missed three doubles to go 2-0 up and Anderson broke back to make it 1-1.
Wright produced a brilliant 10 dart leg to hold his throw in leg four before gaining another break to go 4-3 up.
However, Anderson hit back to win four of the next five legs to take the two points.
