Webster enjoys occasion despite his spin setback
Josh Webster enjoyed his homecoming at Silverstone despite being denied a better finish in the Porsche Mobil 1 Supercup.
Racing just hours before Lewis Hamilton swept to victory in the F1 British Grand Prix, the 21-year-old who is from Mickfield near Debenham, was involved in one of the standout moments of the 13-lap race as he battled for ninth place against IDL Racing’s Tom Sharp and Redline Racing’s Dan Cammish.
The trio were engulfed in a nose-to-tail fight until Porsche Carrera Cup GB Scholar, Webster, who started from 17th, span after an incident at Stowe, and could only recover enough to secure a 17th place finish among the 30-strong field.
However, despite the incident, defending Carrera Cup GB champion Webster thoroughly enjoyed his experience against the Supercup series strongest drivers.
“The pace is good throughout the field so compared to Carrera Cup, it’s like having a 30-strong field of pro drivers,” he said.
“Another big difference was driving on the Pirelli rubber laid on the track by the formula cars in such hot conditions which was something completely new to us.
“I got a great start to the race and the first few laps were cool, probably the best I’ve done in Porsches so far.
“I think if I hadn’t had an incident, I’d definitely have finished in the top 10 which is where I was before the spin. However I’m not too concerned about the finishing position, I was just really happy to have the car working so well.”
