Mears records a victory
Diss Angling Club members found conditions tough during Tuesday’s match on the Mere, with the wind causing problems.
It was Ben Wilby who dealt with the difficulties to eventually take the win, fishing long pole and waggler to catch 28lb 1oz of mainly roach from peg 16.
Roy Elsom was only just behind with a similar net of fish weighing in at 25lb from peg 9, while Chris Thorndyke took third spot from peg 19 with 18lb 1oz, which included some Crucians.
Elsewhere, the first of the Saturday matches took place at Tunmore Lakes, where the sunny conditions were a stark contrast to Tuesday’s meeting.
It ended up being a close encounter, with the top two being split by only 6oz.
Andrew Mears – fishing from peg 13 – took the win, catching mainly carp on the long pole for a total of 32lb 5oz.
Just one fish behind was Colin Lea, who managed 31lb 15oz of carp from peg 15.
Ben Wilby was in third place with 28lb 7oz from peg 10 with a mixed bag.
Meanwhile, Kevin Rodwell made it two wins from two outings during Sunday’s match at Brockdish River.
His winning weight was 3lb 4oz, followed by Saturday’s victor Mears (2lb 3oz) in second and Dordy Wilby (2lb 1oz ) in third.
This Sunday’s match at Hoxne has been put back a week, while the club’s presentation evening and barbecue will be held at the Conservative Club on July 7. Tickets are priced at £8.50, which includes food for the night.
