Two-goal Leitao backed to keep his tally going at Diss Town

Diss Town boss Jason Cook is hoping Virgilio Leitao’s goalscoring exploits last weekend will mark the start of a clinical period for the striker.

The forward was the Tangerines’ main marksman last term, finding the back of the net a total of 25 times in all competitions.

The goals have not flowed quite as easily so far this campaign, although the brace that helped to sink neighbouring Harleston Town in the Norfolk Senior Cup on Saturday moved his tally for 2018/19 on to seven.

“Virgilio was fantastic last season; you could not fault him,” said Cook.

“He has been a little bit more hit and miss this season, but he has still shown his quality, especially on Saturday.

“Hopefully this spurs him on to go on a little run – that is how he seems to score his goals.

“He has been there or thereabouts all season and at times has lacked that little bit of luck, so that could be changing now.”

Of the last five goals Diss have scored as a team, four have come courtesy of Leitao.
