Thrive Boxing team hosts successful first home show at Wortwell Community Centre




The Thrive Boxing team recently hosted its inaugural amateur boxing show at the Wortwell Community Centre.

The event, which showcased the boxing talent of youngsters from Harleston and the surrounding area, treated those in attendance ring-side to a total of 16 bouts.

Ten-year-old Toby Bicker got the action under way on what was his Thrive debut in a skills bout against a more experienced opponent in Albie Weaver of Ipswich.

After just six months of training, Jameson Hayhoe showed his marked improvement levels during his clash with James Brennan from St Osyths, while Christopher Junior Scott utilised his southpaw stance effectively to get the better of King’s Lynn’s Albie Mallett via a split decision.

Jake Lambert was also successful on the night, showing high-skill levels to get the better of former National Junior champion Rogan Pitt of Birmingham.

Eye-based Progress Boxing were represented at the event by their fighter Riley Wilson, who was involved in an entertaining bout against Thrive’s representative Tyler Mills.

But despite a positive start to the first round from Mills, Wilson was in relentless form throughout to earn a unanimous points victory.

Elsewhere on the night, Thrive’s Indie Tiger Taylor and Alfie Chadwick both won unanimously, while Bentley Robinson gave plenty during his defeat.

Demi Summer also showed a lot of potential during her debut skills contest against Evelyn Skipper.

The show also featured an encounter between two fighters from outside clubs as Haverhill Amateur Boxing Club’s Izzy Coston went toe-to-toe with Chloe Davis.

And it proved to be a memorable outing for Coston as the Eastern Counties boxer forced a stoppage against her opponent from Newark.

The club’s next home show is scheduled to take place on Saturday, September 20.
